AONGHAS 'BEAR' MACIVER

Wester Ross & Skye

Hi I’m Bear. I’m a current first 15 player for RSRFC from Inverasdale on the west coast. MND isn’t a disease that I know much about, but its becoming more prevalent in todays society. So any further highlighting of the disease is a huge benefit for future research into treatment. This is a fantastic cause for both the rugby club and the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and a great excuse to get outside and active.

Black Isle & Inverness

I’m Abbie and I live in North Kessock. My son plays with Ross Sutherland RFC and has made loads of friends there and through the wider rugby family. For a number of years I’ve followed MND and the horrific impact it can have on lives. I find the general lack of awareness surrounding the condition really frightening and would love to do what I can to raise much needed financial support for research as well as awareness of MND itself. If I can do that – even a little bit - while enjoying some exercise and some competitive banter throughout the Highlands then I’m certainly game!

BECKY SHAW

Sutherland

Hi, I’m Becky and I live in Golspie. I’m normally a coastal rower and I’ve really missed the team vibe over the last year.  So I loved being part of DoddieAID in January – a great motivation to get out and about on your own while feeling you were part of a team  - and so I’m really keen to get going again with a bit of friendly local competition.  MND is such a horrible disease and anything that we can do to support research is really worthwhile, so I hope we’ll get lots of people involved.  Longer daylight and (hopefully)  less ice this time too – easy life!

DAVID GILL

Easter Ross

I grew up watching Doddie play, and was lucky enough to be coached by him at youth level.  A true gent and an inspiration to many in his battle with MND.  Doddie Aid in January was a huge success and great motivation for people to get out and about and keep a positive mindset through exercise during another lockdown.

I’ve been involved with RSRFC since mini level aged 8 years old, and I still love lacing up my boots for game day 32 years on!  The club is a home in the community and is continuing to grow stronger due to the passion and commitment of it’s members and players.  With my own children now playing, it is ever more important to secure the future of the club for their generation and beyond.

Why am I doing this? I love a challenge and keeping fit but despite good intentions I need a push!  Knowing that my miles are inspiring people to join in and donate to 2 worthy causes will help me push that bit harder.

Exiles

Having started my rugby career at 5 years old at Ross-Sutherland and then going on to play most of my senior rugby for Melrose, which was Doddie’s club, means this challenge is very close to my heart.

My rugby career has taken me to Australia and Hong Kong, where I played for the National Team, but will be forever grateful of the start I got at Ross Sutherland.  Being captain of the P7 team that won our home tournament back in 1996 playing alongside people that remain my close friends today, will always take some beating!
